What is ProGuard?

• ProGuard is not an insurance policy. It is a heating oil storage tank warranty between Van Doren Oil Company and our customers that protects our customers against a leak from their oil tank. This warranty is for one year and must be renewed each year to maintain the benefits of the ProGuard program.

What kind of protection does ProGuard offer?

• The ProGuard program provides up to $100,000 for remediation costs resulting from a fuel oil release from a tank enrolled in the ProGuard program. Soil contamination from tanks not enrolled in the ProGuard program or from previously excavated or abandoned tanks is not covered.
• The ProGuard program is transferable to new buyers of a home as long as they maintain Van Doren Oil Co. as their exclusive heating oil supplier with automatic delivery status.

Who is eligible for ProGuard?

• Any customer of Van Doren Oil Co. owning a commercial or residential fuel oil tank with a capacity of 4000 gallons or less is eligible.
• The tank must be on automatic delivery status with Van Doren Oil Co.
• The tank must store #2 fuel oil for space heating purposes only. Diesel and gasoline tanks are not eligible.
• Tanks with pre-existing leaking problems are not eligible.
• Abandoned or inactive tanks are not eligible.

How does a customer enroll their tank in ProGuard?

• The customer needs to fill out the ProGuard application. After the customer returns the application to Van Doren Oil Co. with a check for the proper amount, we will contact him or her to perform a site inspection. Enrollment in ProGuard also requires a tank test. Please contact Van Doren Oil Co. for eligible tank testing companies.
